Youngstown Scholarships

The following is a list of the current scholarships available to our Youngstown Campus students. Since this list is subject to change, you are encouraged to work with the Financial Aid Office for assistance with the application process. PLEASE NOTE:  only one application is necessary to be considered for all applicable institutional scholarships.  The deadline to apply for Mercy College Institutional scholarships is February 28, 2017.  The Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley scholarship deadline is March 31, 2017.

Purpose:

The scholarship is to be given to an Associate of Science in nursing student in good standing at Mercy College of Ohio, Youngstown location. The scholarship is for tuition and fees. The College’s Scholarship Committee selects the recipient. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Accepted into the Associate of Science in nursing program at the Youngstown location.
  • Currently maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and in good standing with the College.
  • Completed application for the scholarship.

Purpose:

This scholarship is funded by the Fifth Third Bank. Fifth Third Bank is a United States regional bank corporation with headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio and locations throughout Ohio and other Midwestern states.  This scholarship will be awarded to new or current students with demonstrated financial need.

Eligibility requirements:

  • New or current student
  • 3.0 GPA
  • Submit an essay of not more than one double-spaced, type written page explaining the candidate’s choice of area of study and reasons for choosing Mercy College
  • Completed FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office by February 28th

Purpose:

This scholarship was established in memory of Florence Burke, mother of Dr. Patricia McAllen, Campus Director/Program Chair at Mercy College, Youngstown site. The recipient is someone who has a passion for the care of geriatric patients.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Current student at Mercy College, Youngstown
  • 2.7 GPA and in good standing with the College
  • Completed Scholarship Application Form with a short essay addressing the applicant’s desire to care for geriatric patients
  • Complete FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office by February 28th

Purpose:

This scholarship was established in memory of Frank and Fern Magyar by their family to assist first year nursing students at Mercy College of Ohio, Youngstown site, who are in financial need.  Applicants must be a resident of Columbiana, Mahoning, or Trumbull Counties in Ohio to be eligible.

Eligibility requirements:

  • An entering student accepted to the Associate Degree Nursing program at Mercy College, Youngtown site
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA and in good standing
  • Financial need
  • Resident of Columbiana, Mahoning, or Trumbull Counties in Ohio
  • Completed application for the scholarship

Purpose:

The Joseph and Agnes Diorio Scholarship Fund was established in 2015 in memory of the Diorios by their family and friends. Deborah Diorio Zajac, daughter of Joseph and Agnes, is one of the original faculty members of Mercy College’s associate degree program in nursing at Youngstown. The Diorios, life-long residents of Youngstown, were supporters of nursing education and loyal patients of St. Elizabeth Hospital. They recognized and appreciated good nursing care.

The scholarship is given to an Associate of Science in Nursing student in good standing, who successfully completes the first level of nursing courses, and is eligible to begin the second level of the nursing program at Mercy College of Ohio, Youngstown location.   The scholarship is to be used for tuition and fees. The College’s Scholarship Committee selects the recipient.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Successfully complete all first level nursing courses and eligible to begin the second level of the nursing program at the Youngstown location.
  • Currently maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and in good standing in the nursing program.
  • Demonstrated evidence of clinical competency (one letter of recommendation from a previous clinical instructor.)
  • Complete application for the scholarship.
  • Complete an essay on the importance of clinical competency.

Purpose:

The scholarship(s) is to be given to a student(s) seeking a degree to become a registered nurse, in good standing at Mercy College, with a preference for Patrick Henry High School, Hamler, Ohio graduates.  The scholarship may be used for tuition and fees. The College’s Scholarship Committee selects the recipient(s). 

Eligibility Requirements:

For Associate or Bachelor Degree of Science in Nursing Students:

  • A degree leading to becoming a registered nurse,
  • Preference to Patrick Henry High School, Hamler, Ohio graduates,
  • Currently maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and in good standing at Mercy College,
  • Completed application for the scholarship.

Purpose:

This scholarship is funded from the income earned on a gift from the Mary    Rosanne Creedon estate.  Ms. Creedon was a graduate of the St. Elizabeth School    of Nursing in Youngstown.  Mercy College is the successor to that school.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Acceptance into the Associate Degree program in Nursing at Mercy College, Youngstown
  • 3.0 GPA and in good standing with the College
  • Completed Scholarship Application Form
  • Completed FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office by February 28th
