Mercy College of Ohio is happy to assist you in receiving your VA or other military education benefits. Mercy College of Ohio is a participant in the VA Principles of Excellence Program. The VA determines your eligibility for benefits. If you are eligible, the VA Certifying Official in the Financial Aid Office will work with you to certify your education benefits. If you have any questions at any time, please stop by our office, call, or send an email. We are here to assist you.

For help choosing what Education benefit is right for you use the GI Bill© Comparison Tool.

How to Apply for Veteran’s Educational Benefits

Step 1: You may apply online. Go to the Veteran’s Education and Training Website. Call the VA if you are uncertain or have questions (1-888-GI BILL-1). Note: each program has individual requirements for eligibility.

Step 2: If an eligible Service member decides to use Tuition Assistance (TA), enrollment at Mercy College is approved after the TA is approved by your Educational Service Officer (ESO) or counselor within the Military Service. For more information regarding TA, please visit https://dodmou.com/TADECIDE/.

Step 3: After you have received the Certificate of Eligibility, submit one copy to a Mercy College of Ohio Certifying Official located in the Financial Aid office.

Step 4: For current or active MGIB-Active Duty (Chapter 30), or MGIB Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606), or Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP, Chapter 1607), or Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP), please confirm your attendance in the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (W.A.V.E). Please note, this system is NOT being used for monthly verifications for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. You can verify your enrollment via text message or by calling the Education Call Center (ECC) 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551). The ECC can also help you opt into text verification. VA strongly recommends verifying enrollment via text.

Step 5: Mercy College of Ohio encourages all students, (including veterans, service members, and family members), to file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). If you have any questions about how to file the FAFSA, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 419-251-1219 or financialaid@mercycollege.edu. Please visit the Mercy College financial aid homepage for more detailed information. If you have had a change in your income status, you may qualify to file a Professional Judgement Special Circumstances Appeal. The priority deadline to apply for Mercy College scholarships and FAFSA is March 1st. The FAFSA opens every year on October 1st for the next academic year.

Step 5: Review detailed information regarding estimated price of tuition, fees, books, and other expenses on Mercy College's cost of attendance webpage. You can also use the Net Price Calculator for an estimation of your costs. For the financial aid cost of attendance budget, please read the “Understanding Your Financial Aid Offer.”
