Eating Disorders

Just like people, eating disorders come in all shapes, sizes, and yes - genders. If you are concerned about a friend, or concerned about your eating, this page includes local and national resources for help and information.

Each February Mercy College has eating disorder programming. Please do not wait until then to get information or help. Early intervention is extremely important. Eating disorders can lead to serious health consequences and even death. If you have concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to visit the counseling office on the 5th floor of Madison, room 5812. The Director of Counseling is available for appointments and referrals.

"For the Love of Nancy" is a powerful film about anorexia. It stars Tracey Gold, who openly battled with anorexia while starring on the 1980's hit "Growing Pains." It’s a painfully honest portrayal of the disease.

"Thin" is a striking documentary about anorexia by Lauren Greenfield. Its tag line is "Thin: If it takes dying to get there, so be it." The documentary follows the lives of four young women, who are between the ages of 15 and 30, as they attempt to heal in a recovery facility.
