The nursing program curriculum is evaluated and modified on an on-going basis to meet the changing needs of the healthcare industry. Requirements for admission, progression and graduation are likewise evaluated and modified. Students and applicants will be notified of changes. Since there are frequently more applicants than available space, admission to the nursing program is competitive. Admission is granted to the best-qualified students. A new group of students is admitted each fall.
Admission to the program does not guarantee immediate placement in the nursing courses. Students are responsible for knowing the prerequisites for courses prior to registration.
The Nursing Admission, Progression and Graduation committee will act on the application when all required admission materials are received.
In addition to the universal admission requirements for Mercy College of Northwest Ohio, applicants to the nursing program must have:
The Associate Degree Program in Nursing at Mercy College of Northwest Ohio is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC); 61 Broadway, 33rd Floor, New York, NY; 10006; 212-363-5555, Ext. 153; www.nlnac.org.
Registered Nursing Licensure Requirements Prospective nursing students are advised that when applying for state licensure examination, they will be required to indicate whether or not they have ever been convicted of a felony or other crimes. A positive response to this question may disqualify the candidate for licensure. The Ohio Board of Nursing (or the licensing board of Nursing in whichever state a student applies for examination) makes all eligibility decisions. Ohio Licensure Examination Applicants: Effective June 1, 2003 for all students entering a pre-licensure nursing program after June 1, 2003, candidates who wish to sit for the NCLEX RN or PN examination will be required to submit their fingerprints to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII).
