2011 Funding Efforts – Report from the Mercy College Advancement Office

The 2011 Mercy College of Ohio Annual Campaign conducted from mid-November through December 31, 2011, resulted in a significant increase in total dollars collected as well as in the number of donors.

The staff of the Mercy College Advancement Office is pleased to share these facts:

  • 229 donors compared with 107 in the 2010 campaign
  • 188 alumni of Mercy School of Nursing or Mercy College donated to the campaign
  • Total dollars raised = $28,470 compared with $13,430 in the 2010 campaign
  • $11,490 = dollars raised for the Helen Mae Dickman Memorial Fund
  • $16,980 = dollars raised for various scholarship funds, student service learning experiences, and renovation and expansion of the science labs at Mercy College

Overall donations from individuals and corporations for the 2011 calendar year totaled $130,370.14.  This was a 12.9% increase over 2010.  The number of donors increased from 350 to 488, a 39% increase.

During this year, we submitted 23 grant proposals. Thirteen (13) were approved with appropriations totaling $98,000. Five (5) were denied; one (1) never responded; three (3) agencies pulled funding after the grant applications were submitted; one (1) is still pending.

There were no federal or state appropriations awarded to Mercy College in 2011.

Madonna Homes Valentine Party
Want to celebrate the valentine spirit with those in need? On Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 12 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Mercy College is hosting a valentine party, bingo, and other games at Madonna Homes.  The residents love Mercy College students and would love to have you there!  See Sr. Sally (5th floor, Campus Ministry) if you would like to attend!

Project Linus
Tuesday, February 21, 2012 is Project Linus Blanket Day! Design a blanket anytime from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the 3rd floor Jefferson Lobby. Last year we made 97 blankets. This year’s goal is 100 plus!

Volunteers Needed for Child Care at the Catholic Club
Volunteers are needed to provide child care during Parenting classes at the Catholic Club (1601 Jefferson Avenue, Toledo). Hours of service are every Wednesday from 9:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. See Sr. Sally if you are interested!



11th Annual Multifaith Banquet 2012

February 1st, 2012

March 11, 2012 from 3:30-7:00 p.m. at the Franciscan Center

This year’s dinner is to feature an “Erase the Hate” youth diversity festival, “Heroes of Compassion Award” presentations, table discussions, faith displays and a wonderful banquet!  The cost is $25 per person….a wonderful offer!  If any student would like to attend, see Sr. Sally by February 20. The first four students that come can receive a complimentary ticket to this event.



Major Financial Aid Changes for 2012-2013

Beginning with the 2012-2013 FAFSA, students (and parents or spouse) will be expected to load 2011 Federal Tax information directly from the IRS onto your 2012-13 FAFSA.  The Financial Aid office will no longer be able to accept paper copies of tax returns for verification purposes.  Please read the attached changes as you prepare for applying for financial aid:

Dance Marathon…for the Kids!

January 26th, 2012

The 2012 Dance Marathon fundraisers have begun. Students from Mercy will join Bowling Green State University on March 31, 2012, to raise money for Mercy Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network. Mercy Students will expand their four-hour participation block to 12 hours. If you are a student and would like to participate, please attend the Dance Marathon meetings every Friday at Noon in M5805. If you are unable to make the meetings, please contact Thomas Moore, Recruitment Chair, at tmoore@mercycollege.edu and he will send you information.

Be on the look-out for weekly fund-raisers, and remember….it is for the kids!
