Counseling Core Values
Excellence
Individual or group counseling is the primary responsibility of the Director of Counseling. The Director demonstrates excellence in myriad ways. Every two years the Director of Counseling attends 30 hours of continuing education courses, both locally and nationally, in order to stay current on the latest trends and to provide best practices. The Director of Counseling also belongs to local, state and national college counseling associations. Additionally, The Director creates policy to ensure the safety of our students and campus, seeks mutual aid agreements with other colleges and universities, and creates mental wellness programming for awareness and education.
Compassion
The Director of Counseling’s goal is to serve mercy students with care, compassion, and tenderness. The Director is committed to serving all students, regardless of the presenting problem, and is accepting and respectful of the diversity of the student body.
Human dignity
The Director of Counseling demonstrates the core value of human dignity by providing unconditional positive regard, compassion, nonjudgmental attitude, empathy, and trust.
Justice
The Director of Counseling aims to act with integrity, honesty and truthfulness with students and co-workers.
Sacredness of life
The Director of Counseling demonstrates this core value by the development of policies such as the Mental Health Crisis Protocol. The Protocol is designed to help the campus community know how to respond to a student mental health crisis.
The Director of Counseling supports the ideals of the Judeo-Christian tradition and the principles and beliefs of the Catholic faith. The Director demonstrates this by supporting the College’s programs, mission and vision.
Service
The Director of Counseling responds to those in need by giving time to volunteer, or donating to various causes. The Director strongly believes in service and encourages students to participate in the many service opportunities through Mercy College and in the community.
