Hi! Welcome to the counseling site at Mercy College. This page contains information that helps you understand counseling, the role of the counselor, and provides you with great online resources related to a wide variety of mental health topics.
Services
Wendy Nathan, MS, LSW, PCC-S, the Director of Counseling provides free supportive counseling and referral services to all enrolled students at Mercy College.
What Are Some Common Reasons A Student Might Seek Counseling?
A student might seek a counselor for help with resolving emotional or personal issues. A student might initiate counseling for reasons not limited to; test anxiety, performance anxiety, communication difficulties, an eating disorder, depression, anxiety, an academic crisis, sexual orientation, or self esteem problems. If you have any question as to whether the counselor can help you with your issue, please contact the Director of Counseling.
Referral Services
While many issues can be resolved with the help of a counselor, it is sometimes necessary to refer the student to an outside provider in order to get the proper care. The Director of Counseling will make every effort to help you find the right provider.
How Does Counseling Work?
Counseling works by helping people objectively look at behaviors, feelings, and thoughts in problematic situations. Counseling helps people learn more effective ways in dealing with those situations. Counseling is a collaborative effort. You and the Director of Counseling will work together to achieve your goals and reach a greater peace of mind.
