About Phlebotomy Certification Preparation Course
Yes, this program includes a clinical experience!
Phlebotomy is the process of collecting blood samples for quality laboratory testing. Those who acquire these skills have a variety of career opportunities in healthcare settings. Course participants have found employment with hospitals, clinics, outpatient drawing sites, doctors’ offices, plasma centers, and insurance companies. Our students are ready to practice phlebotomy immediately upon course completion, providing a rapid return on your financial investment. Our program includes 52 hours of quality classroom instruction and hands-on practice in phlebotomy. Other healthcare topics such as, but not limited to, healthcare protocols, safety procedures, HIPAA privacy standards, medical ethics, infection control, legal issues and special sample collections will be discussed.
A 120 hour clinical externship is included with this course. This is a great way for students to practice their newly gained skills in a healthcare setting. Clinical rotations will be arranged by the instructor and will generally occur during dayshift hours in three-week blocks after successful completion (80% passage) of the lecture/lab component.
Participants who successfully complete our program and meet the below stated requirements will be eligible to take a national certification exam through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). These requirements include completion of 40 hours of lecture, 120 clinical hours, 100 successful draws (including venipunctures and dermals), and orientation in a full service lab. The costs and registration for this national certification is the responsibility of the student. Currently phlebotomy certification is not an Ohio requirement for employment.
A copy of your high school diploma or GED completion, physical, immunization records, and a signed statement of healthcare responsibility is required for this program. Documents for these requirements will be sent to you upon acceptance into the program. Students may need to purchase a lab coat at their own expense before their clinical experience.
