***Please note the Medical Terminology course dates listed for August, 2010 and January, 2011 are subject to change***

Vast amounts of information passes through medical offices every day.  The medical coder is responsible for converting the records of every patient into universally recognized classifications, or codes.  These records include information such as the physician observations, prescription history, diagnosis, procedures performed, disease tracking, etc.

Coding is a part of one of the fastest growing occupations in one of the fastest growing healthcare industries, Health Information Management (HIM).  Job opportunities for coders are found throughout the healthcare industry in physician offices, clinics, long-term care facilities, hospitals and insurance companies.

After successful completion of your coursework, you may take the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) certification exam to become a Certified Coding Associate (CCA).  While taking a national certification exam is not a required part of the course, our goal is to prepare you for this option.  Credentials are important and validate your competence to other professionals and employers.

There are six classes required for this program of study.  The classes need to be taken in the order listed below.  Our Medical Terminology class incorporates anatomy and physiology of the body systems while teaching the medical words.  We will accept courses in medical terminology and/or anatomy and physiology from another facility.  Just forward your certificate or transcript with your registration so we can place it in your file.  A high school diploma or a GED equivalent is required.
