New Study Rooms Available!

Monday, December 7th, 2009

The Division of Student Formation is excited to announce the creation of three new study rooms on the 5th floor on the Madison side of the building. The new rooms are numbers 5611, 5612 and 5614. Each room is quite large and is equipped with multiple individual desks and chairs. The rooms are designated for quiet individual study and the doors are to remain open at all times. Group study rooms are still available at the other end of the floor. The new rooms will be available for student use effective Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Mercy Students: AHHH Day is Back!

 Sign-up sheets will be on the door of the Student Lounge beginning on Monday, December 7th. Ahhh Day is the Monday of finals week – December 14th, from 9AM to 3PM. We bring the spa to you – for FREE. This is a wellness program that has been existence for 7 years and is very popular. Students can stop by for a 10 or 15 minute session of massage, reflexology, rain drop therapy, and/or healing touch. Posters will be up explaining the services. Students can sign up for 3 sessions, but if there are openings at the end of the week, you can attend all 5. We would like give all those who want to participate a chance to do so. Make sure to come 5 minutes before your appointment. If you don’t show, you lose your spot. Please be responsible and show up if you have taken a slot. If you do not want to attend a session, we will have food for you snack to on. Take care of yourself – you deserve it! Questions? Call Wendy Nathan at 419-251-1454.

Mock Interviews for Students

Need to brush up on your interviewing skills? For the next two weeks you can participate in a mock interview! In a mock interviw you can practice interviewing one-on-one and receive feedback on your personal strengths and opportunities for improvement. Interviews can be scheduled by appointment. The Nursing Programs at Mercy College of Northwest Ohio are nationally accredited and approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing.

The Associate of Science in Nursing program (AD) is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing (last visit February 2009) and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (phone 404-975-5000). The program was last visited in October, 2008 and at the February, 2009 Board of Commissioners meeting was granted 8 year continuing accreditation (the maximum amount allowed).

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing (last visit February 2009) and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE, phone 202-887-6791), last visit October, 2008 with a decision to grant continuing accreditation for 10 years (maximum allowed).

The BSN program is also accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (404-975-5000). The program sought initial accreditation with NLNAC at the time of the October AD visit. The program was granted initial accreditation for a period of 5 years (maximum allowed).

This can be verified on each of the accrediting bodies websites as well as calling the numbers listed above.

Midterm grades not where you want them to be?  The Division of Student Formation offers support services to help you with your academic goals.  Our services include tutoring in math, science, writing, and nursing (through the Division of Nursing).  In addition, we have academic support services (time management, study skills, etc.), and counseling services.  Call 419-251-1734 or stop by the 5th floor Madison and get help today!



National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week

National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week is October 18th to October 24th 2009. Alcohol use and abuse can affect your health, decision-making, nutrition, driving, and academics. In addition, Mercy College has a Drug and Alcohol Abuse/Prevention Policy that provides guidance on policy, assistance with alcohol/drug awareness resources, and procedures for drug testing. The policy can be found on pages 29-32 of the 2009-2010 Mercy College Student Handbook.
