The generosity of Mercy College employees and students knows no bounds. The ornaments on this year’s GIVING TREE (with the person’s name and gift idea) were taken in three days – a record! Those who took ornaments bought extra gifts, and everyone turned their gift donations in before the deadline!

The result is that we had more gifts than the family even requested. We were able to stuff gift items into five large boxes for each of the seven family members. A single mom and her six children will have a wonderful Christmas because of the generosity of Mercy College faculty, staff, and students.

The Academic Council, which sponsors the GIVING TREE, wishes to thank all who participated in the project, including those who donated wrapping paper and ribbon. The Mercy College Family truly lives the Mercy values!

Mercy College once again participated in United Way of Greater Toledo campaign during the fall of 2011. In the past, the College donations have been rolled into the cumulative amount collected by Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center campaign. The United Way Development Officer who was assigned the full Mercy account has agreed to keep a sub-account for Mercy College of Ohio under the Mercy St.V’s account, so we will use this year as the College baseline.

It is with extreme gratitude that we thank the 57 donors from Mercy College of Ohio who made donations or pledges of donations for 2012. There were 21 new United Way donors in that count. Once again the faculty and staff of the College continue to demonstrate their personal commitment to the Core Values of the College into the community. The total amount collected or pledged was $14,813.00.

March 5-9, 2012

We will travel to Harlan, Kentucky, in the heart of Appalachian coal country. Harlan County, according to the 2010 census, is among the poorest areas of the United States.

If you are interested in service to the poor and underserved during Spring Break 2012, please see Sr. Sally in the Campus Ministry Office, or contact her at sally.bohnett@mercycollege.edu or 419-251-1866 ASAP! Spaces are limited and an application will be required (see Sr. Sally). The cost for the trip is $150 with a down payment of $50 due by January 13, 2012 (extended deadline). This is a great way to deepen within each of us our Mercy Core Values.
