Campus Resources

Located on the first floor of the college's administration center, the Mercy College of Northwest Ohio Library provides materials and services that support the educational and information needs of the students, faculty, and our alumni. OhioLINK access is available to all materials found at participating major academic and medical libraries located in Ohio. Remote access to OhioLINK databases, streaming video and online art collections will be available in July 2004.

The Library Open Computer Lab houses 21 computers and contains various software programs required by classes, Microsoft Office, a scanner, as well as many practice tests and programs in the student's field. Currently operating on Windows 2000 with Internet Access, the students can meet all their computing needs at this on-campus location.

Circulation Information
Books may be borrowed from the Mercy College Library and OhioLINK institutions for 3 weeks. Library users can renew a title if no holds have been placed for the title during the initial loan period. Items placed on semester reserve by faculty do not circulate unless the student obtains direct permission from the course instructor.

Interlibrary Loan Services
(Borrowing items from other libraries)
Students, faculty and staff may borrow books from other institutions using our OhioLINK connection. Usually, OhioLINK items are received within 3 to 5 working days.

Articles and other items not available through OhioLINK may be borrowed by completing an Interlibrary Loan Request Form at the circulation desk. Items that can be borrowed free of charge will be ordered immediately, but may take up to 10 days to arrive by mail or courier service at the Mercy College Campus. Patrons will be contacted by college e-mail when their materials arrive.

Students and faculty members are allowed five free fee-based interloan requests per semester. Any interlibrary loans requests over this limit that require a fee are charged to the library user. The library staff will always consult with each individual before paying a fee for any interlibrary loan materials.

Reference and Informarion Services
Reference service is available upon request. All patrons are encouraged to research independently. The librarian and the library staff will assist students in most aspects of their research needs. Individualized instruction in research methods, Internet training and database instruction are available by appointment. The American Psychology Association citation format examples handout is available at the library circulation desk. Faculty can request reference help from the Library Supervisor or fill out a faculty reference request form at the library circulation desk.

OPAL
OPAL is the online catalog of the Ohio Private Academic Libraries. Mercy has partnered with 21 private colleges who have merged their resources for access to a multitude of materials that each and every student can use. The OPAL card catalog contains the records and holdings of books, audiovisual materials, electronic books and journals as well as microforms and periodicals of the member libraries. Users at Mercy can limit their search to holdings available at the Mercy campus or choose to access all the materials in the consortium. The OPAL card catalog does not contain citations or full text articles found in journals, magazines and newspapers. However, OPAL participates in OhioLINK, which enables the user to have access to multiple databases, which index journals, magazines and newspapers.
