Mercy Alumni Association, with more than 1,000 members, has a long and illustrious history. Founded as a way to maintain the relationships and traditions built at Mercy throughout the years, the Alumni Association is the vehicle for graduates to stay in touch with each other, take part in continuing education, and support the college and its programs.
In late December 1923, the graduates of Mercy Hospital Training School had grown to a representative body and were determined to form a permanent organization. Thus, the Mercy School of Nursing Alumnae Association was formed. In 1994 the name was changed to the Mercy Alumni Association in recognition of the addition of Mercy College of Northwest Ohio graduates to the Association. Currently there are more than 1,000 graduates who are members and the number is continually increasing.
The Mercy Alumni Association is the vehicle through which Mercy College of Northwest Ohio communicates with and serves alumni. The Association promotes growth in both the professional and spiritual life of its members, and encourages fellowship among the graduates of Mercy School of Nursing and Mercy College of Northwest Ohio. The organization exists to advance the interests of Mercy College of Northwest Ohio and commits to donate any funds raised exclusively to the College.
All graduates of Mercy School of Nursing and Mercy College of Northwest Ohio are considered members of the Association. Honorary memberships may be conferred to persons who have rendered services to the Association or to individuals whom the Association wishes to honor. Such memberships may be conferred upon recommendation of the Board of Trustees and approved by majority vote at any annual meeting.
The Board of Trustees consists of fourteen (14) elected members as described in the Constitutions and Bylaws of the Association. All officers are elected at the annual meeting and continue in office for one year.
A Mass in remembrance of all deceased alumni followed by brunch takes place in the fall at the College.
The annual meeting/banquet is held in the spring. The gold and silver anniversary classes are honored at this event which serves as a reunion for many others.
The Association offers scholarships annually to current students at Mercy College. The number awarded is determined annually by the Board of Trustees and is contingent on the availability of funds. Alumni have the opportunity to designate their gift to the Annual Fund to be used by the Association for these scholarships.
Mercy News is distributed quarterly and updates members on the latest news of the Association, its members, and the College.
