On Monday at 9 a.m. the Grants Committee came together for the second meeting of the academic year. Mike Whalen, chair, welcomed Pat McConnell back to Mercy College. Pat and Mike discussed with the Committee the issue of needing to know who the funding source is for a grant. Particular attention must be paid to those grants that are funded by federal dollars and awarded through another agent. For example, the Pay It Forward Grant is federal money awarded by the Ohio Campus Compact. Due to our relationship with CHP, we are required for audit purposes to give advance notice prior to applying in this type of situation. The committee members were asked to reinforce this message in their specific department meetings.
The combined list of grants applied for and those awarded for 2010 was distributed. Total grant receipts for 2010 were $123,876.27. Pat noted many funding agencies are experiencing a reduction in the money available to award while receiving a significant number of increasing applications. While the situation will hopefully improve as the economy does, the next few years will difficult.
Committee members were reminded to forward ideas and possible funders to the Advancement Office. In addition, the committee was reminded of the
Project Profile Grant Planning Worksheet found on the M drive/Academic/Forms folder which is a good tool for exploring potential grant ideas.
The next committee meeting will be in April.
